Remington

I believe that everything happens for a reason, like watching a TV commercial when one could just fast forward using the remote. One day I got real lazy and watched an iPhone commercial describing a new applet called "Petfinder". Not long afterwards I came down with a severe case of strep throat. I had to take a week off from work and during that time I remembered that applet and downloaded it for fun. Being really bored (I hate just laying in bed but I was too sick to do otherwise), I started to play with that applet. Just for fun I found that I could search for horses and started to browse the selections. It was then that I saw a couple of cute baby horses that were part draft. One was described as growing to a little over 15 hands and the other was described as finer boned and maybe "sport horse like" at 17 hands when grown. Out of pure curiosity, I sent an email to the contact of the finer boned horse named Remington. She (Deb) responded quickly and encouraged me to go to her web site to see more about Remington. I did so and was excited what I saw. Funny thing is that I kept being drawn back to that web site and looking at the pictures of him. I even set up my computer so that I could easily see the multiple pictures of him with his pasture mates eating hay, etc. When I got feeling better, I made an appointment with Deb and drove out to see him, with my friend Shirley. He was adorable! And, he was more than that. He was quiet, kind, intelligent and, for dressage, well proportioned. I immediately took a liking to him. Deb let me halter him and walk around the arena with him in tow. When I put him back into his pasture with is pasture mates, he followed me. Now I had lots to think about.

I am a dressage rider. I started riding later in life than most, but I am learning quickly and really enjoy competing and getting stronger/better at the flat work of dressage. My two current horses are a Canadian Warmblood (Elation) and a North American Spotted Draft Horse (Jacob). They "started me from scratch" and have been wonderful teachers for which I love them dearly. But adding a third horse, and a baby at that, was not really in my repertoire. So I watched (and read) what Deb is doing at Passion Horse Rescue and decided that the best option is for me to adopt the little guy and for him to grow up at her Ranch. So, late June 2010 (about 1 1/2 months after I just for fun opened that iPhone applet), I adopted a wonderful little guy named Remington (Remy for short). He gets to stay with his playmates for the next year or so and will learn all about being a horse while also learning the basics preparing him for dressage in the upcoming years. I am very fortunate that Deb will do the training (and that means training for me as well as Remy). And for those that really know all of my "story", they are not surprised at this turn of events. As for me, I am excited and proud to have adopted such a sweet soul of a horse. And while I know that we have a long time before we can ride in the show arena, I am looking forward to all the time I get to spend with him working up to that time. Thank you Deb and everyone else for finding and saving Remy. God Bless.

Bella

When i was a little girl, i would have dreams of riding horses and owning a horse. When i was about 11 years old, my dad said on day we would be taking horse riding lessons, i was so excited about getting to ride, I would practice on the couch. We took lessons until I was 14 years old. Then , I rode a mule on a family reunion and 2 other horse, they were already saddled and ready to go.(Debra called these push-button horses). I had a lot of experience but over the years, I was starting to forget. Now at 15 going on 16, we had just moved to Texas and we had 42 acres of land, and I wanted a horse so badly so I went on petfinder.com everyday and looked at horses. One day, I saw a horse named Bella, she was so pretty and I told my dad and he said to email whoever owns her. So I emailed Debra and she answered telling me about her and to look on her website. I looked and saw Bella and I was so excited. But what took me by surprise is when I saw her for the first time. We drove up and I looked up and it said passion horse ranch and I was smiling and then she brought Bella out MY heart flip over backwards and I fell in love with Bella. I was scared for a while she didnt like me but one day I was done with my horse lesson with Bella and put her in her pin with her friends and I shouted, Bye Bella, I Love You! and she looked at me and neighed. I wanted to run and hug her but I stood there and watched her run with her friends back to the hay and smiled to myself. If ever in the world, there was a soul-mate between two species, horses and humans are the perfect example.

I once had a best friend who was my horse for 8+ years her name was Blaze. She was my sassy barrel racing horse. Due to family issues and by no choice of my own my best friend was given to the highest bidder. I had a whole in my heart that could not be filled. I later in life was able to adopt and train my Arabian horse Tinker Belle ( Belle). I had such great and high hopes of discovering a best friend in her. I loved her very much but our journey together was very short. Belle was sent for 90 days training and when she came home all trained up and ready to ride I gladly climbed aboard. I have never been scared of horses because I have never believed they had a mean bone in their body. I still believe that today. I mounted her from the ground and she spooked a little I just held on. She finally calmed down and in a large round pin began to ride. As I kicked her up to a trot and then to a lope she blew up and I went to the ground with a thud. I was taught to cowgirl up and always get back on so I did. I will say though I never ever worked through my fear of her freaking out again. The lady where I was boarding was very kind and I asked her to take Belle and find her a good home so she would not go to waste. I laid my love for horses down. I would look back occasionally but it hurt too much so I just pushed on. I found myself ignoring a part of who I am. You see it just hurt to have something as important as horses were to me to mark bad times in my life. I began to associate horses with the hard times or heartbreaks in my life. About 10 years after Blaze, Belle, and inner healing with my family I finally felt strong enough to conquer those feelings. I wanted to get back into riding so I knew I needed to take lessons to get back in shape. I would want to eventually get a horse for myself that was my soul mate. I started my search on the internet looking for lessons and boarding at the same place. I wanted help most of all. I came across the Passionhorse.com website. I spent weeks reading the information provided. Debs story most of all touched me right where I was. She had a section on the website called my new passion. She described how she wanted to help people recognize they have a passion for horses or for those that have been away for various reasons get back to their passion. That was it for me I emailed and shortly went to the ranch to talk with Deb. After speaking with Deb I knew I had found the right person to help and I was ready to get back to my passion. Deb told me if I would be patient we would find my match. I was so grateful to hear her say that. I of course tell her that I want a gelding, quarter or paint horse, about 15 hands, about 10 yrs old, and fully trained. I of course did not want a draft they were way to big. After looking at and riding several horses Deb already had I just was not in love. One day before my lesson I was over by the fence and I noticed she had a couple of new horses. The one that caught my eye was Cynthia. A huge blonde Belgian bombshell. Then from behind her came this beautiful black gorgeous horse that I didnt even notice. After my lesson I asked Deb about her she said she is not trained but that Cynthia could be a possible match just give her some time to work with her and she would let me know. Deb let me know her honest opinion at every turn. I thank God for that. She let me know that Cynthia was not for me. I asked her about a horse I had come to know as Jasmine. Again she stressed she was not trained. I asked her to look at her for me anyway. What Deb did not know is that due to Jasmines personality I was already in love. So much for lists. Deb took 30 days of her own time to evaluate her for me to make sure I had the soul mate match I had longed for. This was it and I knew it. Deb let me know that there would be a lot of training and hard work but she did believe we would be a good match. My heart soared... I am now the proud owner of the most wonderful Princess Jasmine. A long and worthwhile road. Still work to be done but I could not be happier. She is a mare, Percheron draft cross, 16 hands, 3years old, and far from fully trained. Through my experience I just say keep an open mind because your soul mate may not meet your list of requirements. I would like to thank Passion Horse, Deb, and all the volunteers. Thank you for saving my PMU foal Jasmine. I once again have my best friend. May God Bless the work of your hands and multiply it. Thank you again.
Love you all,
Jasmine and Le Anna

Ty

know Kelly will not write a adoption story. She is a simple woman, very humble, shy by nature and extremely giving. She has volunteered here at PH for about 2 1/2 years. True dedicated person. She is here rain, snow, ice and shine. She has known Ty Ty for about 2 1/2 years. Ty came to us as a rescue. Ty has been adopted out twice. When Ty came back the first time I offered to donate Ty to Kelly.. She has always had a connection with her.. but Kelly hesitated and someone else adopted her.. BUT this second time she came back Kelly stepped up and said ok! Ty has many special needs and also has some SUPER special qualities! Just like Kelly! Ty is quiet, shy but extremely caring. Her job here at the ranch is to love, care and teach the new PMU babies each year as we bring them in. She is Momma Ty! The babies love her and she teaches them and also schools them. It is a true blessing that we found Ty's niche in the world.. being a nanny and this is a very important job! When we introduced last year's babies it made such a difference in the gentling process it was amazing! She teaches them that humans are not bad, she cares for them when they are sick and schools them when they are being bad or misbehaving...Kelly has really stepped up and is learning constantly about horses now.. as she owns one....This is such a wonderful match!
