Sanctuary Horses

What is a santuary horse? It is a horse that has been deemed a "permanent resident of PH". In the past year during my hours of rescue I took in an old cart horse we found in Cleburne named "Doc". He was out in a pasture over used, starving and dying. I took him in. He calapsed on the trailer ride home. Once here he stood in a stall for 2 days leaning against the wall trying to gain his strength. BUT then a miracle happened and Doc got stronger. During his 9 month stay here he got a horrible cold and coliced once. But what did this horse do? He touched each and everyone here that came to visit. He lived his remaining days in our barn area begging for treats, snotting each and everyone of us (he had serious allergies) and nickering for each person as they entered the barn area. Although he was slowly dying he had the most fantastic last days here touching our hearts and changing everyone's opinion of the "old horses". Old and non ridable does not mean "used up". His purpose was to teach people. Teaching us about abuse, neglect and starvation. He died here October 16th 2009. His memory lives on each day. Our mission is to educate and help the old horses. Will you help us?

The horses below are Santuary horses with special needs.

Poncho is a 26 year old "play day horse". He was donated to us for rehabiliation and placement. Once evaluated we found that Poncho is in pain from over use and bad knee's. He came to us completely non emotional. No attachment and would really have preferred we just let him be and feed him. This hurts our hearts that an animal can feel this way. So over the past 6 months we have loved, spoiled, and spent lots of time just touching him and letting him know that we are here to stay and will never ask him to run again. I have watched this horse slowly recover. He now will let some people touch him. For Teri and I he comes and begs for attention. He loves to be touched in a quiet enviroment. Because of this he is now a permanent resident of PH. He is here to learn that humans can be good and soon I expect him to start teaching humans about abused and neglected horses. He is now almost up to weight, slicked out and shiny from good "senior" food and YES lots of cookies. We call him Mr Sexy...
Will you help this old guy out?

Who is Doulcie? She is approx 15 years old and is a blind mule. We had to remove one eye and the second is not useful. We have spent the past year teaching Doulcie to deal with her blindness. She is an amazing Mule. Sweet, gentle, kind, and well just a carrot eating addict! Doulcie is a santuary animal. She is a permanent resident.
How can I help?
You can become her sponsor and help pay to feed and care for her
How else can I help?
She needs an angel. This special person will come and care for her. Brushing, loving, feeding carrots, cleaning her stall and spending special quality time with her.
