Question and answers about our Horse Purchase program:

Where do you get your horses?
None of our horses come from a "Sale barn". Each are carefully purchased from indiviual owners that cannot afford to own them or that have no time.

What do I get with the purchase of my horse?
Every Passion Horse equine comes with 30 days boarding and 4 horsemanship/riding lessons. Plus lots of support with care, feeding, medical tips and tack information. When you leave with your "new best friend" we are still going to be here for you. Call us, email us. We are here for you! You will not be ignored or told "it's is your horse now".  We have had this happen to us! We have an ongoing support system.

What kind of training comes with my horse?
A full health evaluation is done on your horse. Teeth are floated, Current Coggins, vaccines updated, feet trimmed, worming and a special customized diet to assure that the equine is brought back to 100% health.  A full evaluation of the horse's skills is done. First on the ground and then under saddle. Once evaluated, we start our PH special training process that includes lots of desensitization, lots of handling, riding and working with any issues that we might find. All of our horses are good with their feet, trailer, tie, stand for mounting both on the ground and use of a mounting block. They ride in a smooth snaffle or sometimes even a bosal or halter, have a soft mouth, and have been exposed to trail riding.

How will I know if the horse is a good match for me?
Passion Horse is dedicated to horse to human match. NO match is made based on color or sex of horse. It is based on skill, personality and relationship. Our passion for horses includes that ALL of our horses go to FOREVER homes. Each horse's personality and skills are carefully evaluated so that they can be matched to the right human.
Required:
We require 2 references (one vet, farrier or employer and one personal) plus we will visit your facility to see where you will keep your new friend. This is a mandatory requirement.

Facts:
Typically a horse that comes into our program is here for 3 months before they are ready to be adopted. Our process is slow, consistent and gentle. We do not believe in slamming training, or using harsh methods. Each horse is treated as an indiviual and problems and behaviors are corrected before they are ready for adoption.

Once I decided I wanted to get a horse and that it was a good time, I asked Debra if she would keep an eye out, while I looked on my own as well. Being new at this, I was grateful to have all the help that I did. As we both looked, we were not finding a horse that was a match, but then something came through when we least expected it and Debra found a horse for me, my Jack. I had a two month package and got acquainted with all that goes into having a horse and how to put all the tack on him. I had 8 lessons with him and that was helpful in he and I getting to know each other. It is hard to find a horse out there and getting a horse through Debra made the whole process wonderful!
Thanks Deb!  - Lisa Walklin

Several years ago I had a bad wreck on my horse and my confidence was shattered. I didn't know if I would ever trust a horse enough to relax and enjoy riding again. Then I met Deb, I started taking lessons and volunteering. Not long after, she started asking me to exercise the "New Passion" horses. Slowly my confidence started building, Deb was always there to remind me to breathe and relax. After a year of volunteering at Passion Horse I met Sierra. I had a feeling about her that I just couldn't shake. I started riding Sierra and spending time with her. We quickly developed a special bond that is indescribable; we trust each other completely and truly enjoy being together. I am always telling people to "slow down and enjoy the scenery"; Sierra and I are learning to do that. Thanks to Deb and the Passion Horse family for helping to build my confidence and bringing Sierra into my life. - Kelli Schak

When it was time to get a horse of my own, I knew I wanted to make sure an unwanted horse got a home. Ive been taking in rescue dogs for most of my life. Post recession, many horses are available for very little and the rescues are full. As I am unsure of my abilities, I knew that I needed help matching the horse to my capabilities, and was worried about getting a horse from a rescue facility. When I saw Birch, I so wanted him to be a good match, but was still a bit concerned. Once I realized how much time Deb required for me to be with Birch, to make sure of my abilities and comfort zone, I knew I had found my horse. She spent several hours over the course of a several weeks making sure I knew Birch and would give him the best home possible. She was patient when I made my mistakes, and made sure we worked through any issues she or I were worried about.  -Deb Lewis

After doing a lot of research on the internet I decided to go to Passion Horse to see what they were all about. I took my 7 year old daughter and 12 year old son with me who are both crazy about horses but had never taken lessons. We met Debra and some of her horses (including 6 foals that she had just been rescued from a PMU ranch). Although the drive for us was over an hour our kids started taking riding lessons with Debra. One of the first things I learned is that when Debra has a child on her property the PH motto changes to its all about the child. Her attention, care, and warmth helped my kids learn about every aspect of a horse while feeling safe and enjoying the experience. PH got us hooked and we spent almost 6 months traveling to Joshua from Dallas to see Ms. Debra and her horses. I wanted my kids to understand the immense dedication it takes to care for a horse and Ms. Debra has taught them step by step everything they need to know. Along the way, I gained an education too. Long story short, we now own 2 PH horses and have had to move our horses closer to home to be able to enjoy them more. These people are not only honest and good-hearted but they have a world of knowledge about horses.

I am so thankful to Debra for introducing us to Goodnight and making our first experience getting a horse such a positive one. Goodnight is a testament to the amazing horses you can find at rescue organizations like Passion Horse.
