Because of the overwhelming need in our local community to save horses right here we will not be getting any PMU foals this year. This year has been a year of sadness, joy and huge success. Please help us to educate the public about the plight of overbreeding. There are already too many wonderful horses in this world. We do not need more! Our focus will be saving horses in our local community.

I want to dedicate our 2011/2012 year to Sparkle. Her story is below:

A day that Passion Horse will always remember.. A day of a horse passing that was so un-necessary. A sweet mare that had a huge heart of gold. Over bred and sick she had a huge lump in her throat that had gone untreated for years. It cost her, her life. We tried to save her but, she was just too far gone. This mare had a 3 month old foal at her side! He is now an orphan.

Our message to all: Please care for your animals. If they are sick get them treated! Don't ignore it! Sparkle might have been saved had she been taken care of years ago. Although it was extremely painful we are honored that her final resting place was at PH. Stop the stupid senseless over breeding!

We are not opposed to professional breeders. We are opposed to the back yard breeders who just do it because the horse justs looks pretty! Or people who are trying to create some new designer breed. Remember you cannot ride papers... so do not assume that a horse with good pedigree is worth reproducing!
I was told once by a professional trainer that very few stallions are worth not gelding!

As times change so does Passion Horse. We are a non-profit horse rescue 5013C but we also offer quality horses and related services for sale.

Often people are misinformed about how a horse rescue needs to operate to succeed. There are three ways that a rescue can sustain itself, wealth, grants and donations.
Firstly, the rescue owners may be wealthy. Unfortunately, that is not the case here.
Secondly, in today's trying times, grant money is extremely limited.
Thirdly, with the economy being as it is donations are way down.
So how do we survive?

Passion Horse primary functions:
Rescue PMU (Drug: Premarin by products) weanling babies (each year in the Fall)
Support ASPCA and North Texas Humane Society (assist and foster)
Local horse rescues from individual's (surrender's)
Education to the public on nutrition, care, and safety!
Promote Natural horsemanship Method's
Adoptions of rescue horses
Horse purchase program: Packages of horse, lessons, and 1-2 months of boarding (primarily draft/draft cross) trail horses
Riding/Horsemanship Lessons
Horsemanship Clinic's
Summer kid's horse camp
Festivals
Fund raisers
Boarding
Hauling horses
Horse training

With all the above you can clearly see we do what it takes to continue one horse at a time rescuing! This is a 7 day a week, 24 hour a day journey! We take one day and one critter at time. We NEVER compromise our care! If we cannot care for any animal at the premium level we do for our present one's we WILL NOT TAKE in another one. Simple.

Hay Needed!
With the serious drought we need your assistance with hay funds! Normally we can purchase hay locally. Our hay provider can only provide us with 161 round bales for the whole year! We typically use 600! We are busy scrambling to find hay to purchase. We need your help! Round bales are going for $120 right now! Bales of hay can be found for $8. This could develop into a crisis quickly for the winter.

Can you help us?

All donations are tax deductable!

In memory of Abby I would like to SHOUT OUT! We lost Abby 7-26-11 due to Colic. BUT Abby was a serious neglect case. No matter how hard we tried we could not get this old sweet lady well. Abby was supposed to be an investment horse but when we went to look at her she was a mess and I could not leave her behind! So I paid $1600 and took her home to get her well! We immediately found she had a horrible Staph infection from a tooth that had been neglected for quite some time. We treated her for it. It seemed to go away and she started to gain weight. Then 2 weeks ago she got very sick again. We rushed her to the hospital and found that she had two more bad teeth. We scheduled surgery and had them removed. It took the vet over 3 hours to pull both of them. We were again hopeful. She seemed bright and cheerful and eating like a pig.. then came the dreaded moment.. she started to Colic. We all knew she could not make it thru it.. she crashed very quickly and we felt at peace having her put down. This sweet, dear little old lady lost her life because the previous owner ignored her teeth issues too long. Even the vet said that with all her issues she remained sweet. In her memory I want to make sure that IF you see an neglected animal PLEASE REPORT IT! Do not hope that the next person will. Be brave. Do it!

The vet bills mounted during our attempt to get her well. Will you help us?
RIP Abby 7-26-11
